IN BRIEF

  • Pascal Bataille, a famous host of the 1990s and 2000s, announced on December 6 that he had lung cancer.
  • He revealed that he had been a “heavy smoker” for nearly 20 years, which could be linked to his cancer.
  • Pascal Bataille encourages young people to avoid tobacco, hoping to finish his treatment soon.

An iconic host of the 1990s and 2000s, Pascal Bataille forms a real duo with Laurent Fontaine. For a little over a year, he has taken over the show Y’a que la vérité qui compte on C8. On December 6, however, the 64-year-old man made a terrible announcement to his fans.

In an Instagram post, Pascal Bataille announced that he had cancer. “For two or three months, I have been fighting lung cancer. And I am sure that I will win this fight” he declared. A positive state of mind that he still maintains, one month after this announcement.

Pascal Bataille was a “heavy smoker” for almost 20 years

On Monday, January 6, Pascal Bataille went to the set of Chez Jordan on C8. He thus confided about the probable cause of his lung cancer. “I was a heavy smoker during my youth. From the age of 15 to about 24, I smoked a lot. Then I took a break and resumed for another eight or nine years intensely” he recalled.

For nearly 20 years, Pascal Bataille smoked about “a pack and a half a day“. Twenty-three years after his decision to quit, this bad habit could have had repercussions on his health. “We can’t say for sure that this cancer that I developed in 2024 is due to smoking, but there is a strong presumption that it has something to do with it” he explained.

The host quit smoking after a hospitalization

At the age of 24, Pascal Bataille decided to quit smoking thanks to hypnosis. If this method worked, he then started again. A few years later, he was the victim of a fall on a show he was hosting with Laurent Fontaine. “I was hospitalized for three weeks without being able to move from my bed (…) And I said to myself: ‘if you smoke again, you really are the king of morons’” he said.

Several years after quitting smoking, Pascal Bataille wants to convey a message of prevention. He thus declared: “I encourage the youngest not to succumb to this vice which is extremely addictive”. An essential speech for someone who has good hope of finishing his treatment in the coming months.
