The leader of the Parti Québécois (PQ), Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, will not be at the general council of the Bloc Québécois (BQ) this Saturday in Quebec.

His speech and his press scrum were canceled, the PQ indicated in a press release Friday evening without further details.

The PQ leader confirmed Friday that he and his family were the subject of death threats and that one person was arrested by the Sûreté du Québec. The affair visibly shook him.

The leader of the Bloc Québécois, Yves-François Blanchet, is scheduled to deliver the opening speech around 11:15 a.m., after the guests have spoken at the general council.

The day before, he was alongside Simon Bérubé who was officially nominated as a candidate for the Quebec riding for the next federal election, Friday evening, at the Château Laurier Hotel.

The Bloc leader said he was proud to welcome Mr. Bérubé to the Bloc team.

“The citizens of Quebec will find in Simon a trusted spokesperson to defend their projects, their ideas and the issues specific to their region,” said Mr. Blanchet.

For his part, Simon Bérubé assured that he wants to “defend equity, social justice, openness, democracy, the environment and the consensus of the National Assembly of Quebec… until independence. »

He added that if the people of Quebec place their trust in him, that he will commit “to acting in areas essential for our collective future”, while protecting the interests of his fellow citizens .

Simon Bérubé took advantage of the opportunity to shoot an arrow at Jean-Yves Duclos, Liberal MP representing the Quebec riding in Ottawa.

“We have, here at the feet of our National Assembly, a spokesperson from Ottawa to Quebec rather than one from Quebec to Ottawa,” he said. And it shows in the management of each local file where we are served with excuses and deadlines rather than results. […] In short, Canada allows itself to do what it wants, here. This needs to change! »
