Motorists must be vigilant on many points. In particular the registration document. This new year marks an increase in the rates of the registration card in certain regions, such as Normandy or Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.

But this is not the only change that concerns the registration certificate. Indeed, a small detail related to the 3DS law can cost inattentive drivers dearly. We explain.

Check that your registration certificate is up to date

The registration certificate is mandatory for anyone who owns a vehicle since this document allows it to be identified. This registration certificate must include your exact address. Even if you have not moved in the last few months, your address may need to be updated on your registration certificate. If this is not the case, you risk a fine of 135 euros. You might as well be careful…

All this is the fault of the 3DS law (differentiation, decentralization, deconcentration and simplification). It allows local authorities to install automatic speed cameras themselves, but not only that. Indeed, this new law requires all French municipalities to name all streets and number all homes. This means the end of vague places in order to create a national geolocation database (BAN) and facilitate the work of delivery people. Municipalities had until June 2024 to change their addressing plan.

This new development is not without impact for drivers. Indeed, if your municipality has changed its addressing plan, then the address on your registration document is no longer the correct one. And that's where things get stuck… So, you absolutely must check that your address is up to date and compliant. If not, you must quickly update it.

In the event of a check, you risk a class 4 fine for incorrect address. This amounts to 135 euros (reduced to 90 euros). It would be a shame to be fined for such a trivial detail. Especially since updating your address on the registration document is free and only takes a few moments.
