The deputies are working on the repeal of the pension reform this Thursday, November 28, 2024. If a majority of the deputies are in favor of returning to 62, there is no chance that this will succeed. Explanations.

Repeal of the pension reform, act… we no longer know how many. A new text proposing to return to retirement at 62 and to put an end to The reform adopted last year is being studied this Thursday, November 28, 2024 at the National Assembly. The bill for the return to force of the old rules is supported by La France insoumise, one month after a similar proposal by the National Rally.

In the hemicycle, the arithmetic would require that the reform be repealed: more than 300 deputies are in favor, or more than half of the Assembly. On the surface, there is therefore no doubt that the text will be adopted. Except that it should not happen so easily. Indeed, this text is proposed within the framework of the parliamentary niche of LFI. This is a day – just one – during which a political group decides on the agenda.

The group led by Mathilde Panot has therefore decided to put the return to 62 to a vote. However, if a vote is not organised before midnight tonight, everything falls apart. The parliamentary niche only lasts one day, until midnight and, once that time has arrived, everything stops, no matter where the debates are at. Thus, to delay the vote as much as possible, the Macronist and LR deputies have tabled nearly 1,000 amendments. Enough to drag out the debates with, ultimately, the hope of a renunciation by the left or discussions that would not have been concluded before the gong.

Furthermore, it should be noted that if the bill on the return of retirement to 62 is adopted, the text should then be adopted by the Senate. Mission impossible since In the Upper House, the government coalition is in the majority and therefore opposed to the repeal. This therefore has no chance of succeeding, while the majority of deputies, but also of the French, are in favor of a return to 62 years.

09:46 – Debates begin in the Assembly

The debates on the text of La France insoumise have begun in the National Assembly. Ugo Bernalicis, LFI deputy at the origin of the bill, said he wanted to reverse a “forced passage” and a “democratic injustice”. For her part, the Minister of Labor retorted that the “difficult adjustments today save us from even more painful challenges tomorrow.” and that “we need to work more”, adding: “France is the country that works the least in the OECD.”

08:48 – Why are MPs at risk of not being able to vote for a return to 62 years old ?

This text is examined within the framework of the parliamentary niche of LFI. This is a single day during which a political group decides on the agenda for the Assembly. It has until midnight to defend its texts. After this time, everything falls apart, whether there has been a vote or not and regardless of where the debates are.

In order to delay the vote as much as possible and try to avoid the adoption of the text, Macronist and LR deputies have tabled nearly 1,000 amendments. Each will be defended, one by one, by a speech that can last a maximum of 3 minutes. If everyone uses their maximum speaking time, this will therefore prevent the vote from taking place before midnight since all the amendments tabled must have been éstudied before the vote. A legal parliamentary obstruction.

07:34 – Can the return of the retirement age to 62 be adopted by the Assembly ?

On paper yes. Indeed, all the deputies of the New Popular Front (which brings together LFI, the PS, the PCF as well as the ecologists), but also all those of the National Rally, are in favor of the return to 62. This therefore represents 316 deputies, or the majority of the chamber. However, it is not certain that the parliamentarians will have time to vote.

06:58 – At what time is the bill studied? ?

The debates will begin at 9 o'clock this Thursday morning in the National Assembly. This will be the first text of the day studied by the deputies.

05:52 – The repeal of the pension reform studied in the Assembly

This Thursday, November 28, 2024, the deputies are called upon to vote on the repeal of the latest pension reform. A bill formulated by La France insoumise submits to the vote of parliamentarians a return of the retirement age to 62 years and a full-rate retirement after 42 years of contributions.
