When we talk about generative artificial intelligence, we immediately think of OpenAI, which popularized this technology thanks to its chatbot ChatGPT. However, there are other very promising startups in this field. And among them, there is Perplexity, a chatbot interface similar to ChatGPT, but which looks more like a search engine and is able to extract information from the internet, instead of just using its training data. Today, Perplexity is already considered by some sites as an alternative to Google's search engine. And although it is still far from competing with the Mountain View firm in terms of market share, Perplexity continues to gain popularity.
A new fundraising round in sight ?
In addition, the project is also of interest to investors. For example, its Series B fundraising, announced at the beginning of the year, during which the startup raised $73.6 million, included big names, such as NVIDIA and Jeff Bezos, via the Bezos Expeditions fund. And apparently, a new fundraising round is already in the works. At least, that's what Bloomberg claims. According to the American agency, Perplexity is in discussions to raise more than $500 million. The operation would triple Perplexity's valuation, which would rise to $9 billion. At the beginning of the year, the startup was only worth $1 billion.

A business model that is taking shape
It should be noted that the startup already has a business model. It offers a free version and a paid version of its service. And, as Bloomberg explains, Perplexity has also developed a product for companies, which allows them to include internal documents in the search. In addition, according to an article published by CNBC in August, Perplexity also has ambitions to display advertisements to generate revenue.
