Pierre Fitzgibbon joins the law firm Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt

A little over two months after announcing his departure from politics, former CAQ minister Pierre Fitzgibbon is joining the business law firm Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt as a “special advisor.”

The Toronto law firm made the announcement Tuesday, highlighting “Mr. Fitzgibbon’s extensive experience in government and the business world.”

After six years as Minister of the Economy, Mr. Fitzgibbon confirmed his departure in early September — in the middle of his mandate — saying he was leaving with his head held high and a sense of accomplishment. He hinted at a “certain decline” in his motivation for politics.

He was Minister of Economy, Innovation and Energy, in addition to being responsible for Regional Economic Development and the Montreal region.

In the press release announcing his arrival at the law firm, Mr. Fitzgibbon said he saw it as “an exceptional platform to continue to advance our economy by supporting the entrepreneurs and businesses that are shaping the future of Quebec and Canada.”

“In an era marked by the energy transition and an increased need for rapid technological development, I am delighted to put my experience and strategic vision at the service of Osler’s clients,” he said.

Pierre Fitzgibbon was first elected as the MNA for Terrebonne for the Coalition avenir Québec in 2018.

Before that, he was Vice-Chairman of the Board of National Bank Financial and also held senior positions at Telesystem Mobiles International, Chase Capital Partners Hong Kong and Domtar.
