Pierre Palmade in prison: “strict conditions” and surveillance, the comedian is not a prisoner like the others

On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, Soir Mag took an interest in the conditions of detention of Pierre Palmade. Incarcerated at Bordeaux-Gradignan prison, the comedian would not be a prisoner like the others, and would give a lot of work to the guards.

EN BRIEF

  • On February 10, 2023, Pierre Palmade had a car accident in Seine-et-Marne, tested positive for narcotics, and was sentenced on November 20, 2024 to five years in prison, two of which were firm.
  • Incarcerated in Bordeaux-Gradignan, he is in solitary confinement for his safety and benefits from special surveillance with rounds every hour.
  • Find out how Pierre Palmade is experiencing his detention under high surveillance in a difficult environment.

A detention under high surveillance… Friday, February 10, 2023, in Seine-et-Marne, the vehicle of Pierre Palmade – who later tested positive for drugs – collided head-on with a car traveling in the opposite direction. Wednesday, November 20, 2024, after a long trial, the 56-year-old comedian was finally sentenced to five years in prison, two of which were firm and three of which were suspended probation. His sentence is also accompanied by a triple obligation to seek care, to work and to compensate the victims, as well as the cancellation of his driving license with a ban on issuing one for five years.

For several weeks, Muriel Robin's former friend has been incarcerated in Bordeaux-Gradignan prison, known for being a difficult place. On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, Soir Mag recalled that in 2022, the General Controller of Places of Deprivation of Liberty had mentioned “particularly undignified living conditions” of the prisoners in this establishment.According to the newspaper, the comedian escaped this daily violence because he was placed in isolation due to his notoriety and his psychological fragility.

Pierre Palmade is said to be a “priority” for the management of the establishment

For several weeks, the comedian has occupied a 9m2 cell with a bed, a sink, a toilet and cooking facilities. For France Télévisions, Arnaud Moumaneix, director of the penitentiary center, had specified: A person in the isolation wing has neither fewer nor more rights than anyone else. This is an ordinary prisoner who serves his detention in an isolated sector within the detention”.

According to information from Soir Mag, Pierre Palmade would nevertheless be a “priority” of the management of the establishment. And for good reason, absolutely nothing must happen to him during his stay in prison. Thus, he would benefit from “special surveillance”. A term from the guards' jargon, and 'very strict' detention conditions, specifies the magazine. The guards would be required to make rounds every hour, day and night, to check that Pierre Palmade has not put himself in danger.

Pierre Palmade is not in contact with other prisoners

In France, according to the International Prison Observatory, one prisoner commits suicide every two or three days. Thus, as had been indicated an internal note consulted by Le Figaro, the guards should record all the facts and gestures of the comedian such as the time of his shower, his time spent in sports, refusal to go for a walk.

Guards should also report “anything that attracts attention” or “that seems to contradict the habits of the person concerned”. As soon as Pierre Palmade leaves the isolation ward, the rest of building A would freeze. “The other prisoners are not allowed to come into contact with the star of the place”, it is specified.
