Since his incarceration at Bordeaux-Gradignan prison last December, Pierre Palmade has been the subject of special attention from the prison administration. A situation that would clearly not leave the guards indifferent.
© Christophe Clovis/Bestimage Incarcerated since mid-December, Pierre Palmade has been placed in solitary confinement for reasons of security and health.
In early 2023, Pierre Palmade caused a serious road accident. While under the influence of drugs, the comedian lost control of his vehicle and caused a chain collision. Several people were seriously injured, including a woman six and a half months pregnant who unfortunately lost her baby. It was last November, almost two years after the events, that the trial opened. Sentenced to five years, three of which were suspended, Pierre Palmade was thus incarcerated in the Bordeaux-Gradignan prison.
But if we have a certain image of the prison world, it would seem that the conditions of the comedian are far from popular fantasies, as explained by Oh My Mag. Indeed, because of his health, but also for security issues, Pierre Palmade has been placed in solitary confinement and benefits from increased surveillance. A protective measure that would be the origin of tensions within the prison staff.

Indeed, the former drug addict seems to have replaced his old addictions with a new obsession: sugar. And especially chocolate, which has reportedly become the comedian's main source of comfort behind bars.
But while this food addiction may be less dangerous than his drug addiction to some extent, it has also transformed Pierre Palmade's cell into a real “room service“. These are packages filled with sweets that arrive regularly and that the prison staff must carefully check each time. A situation that has become unmanageable, which greatly complicates their daily missions.
A situation that is all the more complicated because the prison in which the inmate is incarcerated Pierre Palmade is said to be particularly dilapidated, but is also said to be the victim of overpopulation exceeding 200%. According to France 3 Régions, which published an article at this subject at the beginning of 2024, the prison would accommodate 883 inmates for 434 places, making this penitentiary center one of the most overcrowded in the country.
While a new prison is indeed under construction and is expected for 2026-2027, the situation has become extremely complicated for prison staff. Indeed, the inmates would be three individuals per cell of 9 m², while the law provides for detention in individual cells. “Three per cell, this creates conflicts, fights, score-settling and the guard is alone to manage this on the floor!“, Hubert Gratraud, member of the FO Justice union, pointed out at the time. That being said, several rumors are circulating about the upcoming release of Pierre Palmade, which could greatly lighten the workload of prison staff.
