Pierre Palmade's life took a tragic turn on February 10. The comedian was driving his car when he caused a terrible accident. He veered into the left lane, hitting another vehicle head-on.He seriously injured a pregnant woman, who later lost her baby, a man and his son, aged six. His trial began on 20 November and Pierre Palmade was sentenced to five years in prison, two of which were firm. He is incarcerated in Bordeaux-Gradignan prison and his detention conditions, particularly difficult, have been revealed.

Pierre Palmade was placed in the isolation wing of the penitentiary, generally reserved for the most dangerous or media-covered inmates. As reported by journalists on the air of Europe 1, his conditions of detention would be particularly complicated. The comedian would have been placed in a dilapidated, “poorly insulated and unsanitary sector, located on the sixth floor of one of the oldest buildings in the Bordeaux-Gradignan Penitentiary Center. He would therefore not have the right to come into contact with other detainees, whether during meals or walks in the courtyard.

Pierre Palmade: detention conditions to be deplored ?

Regarding the walks, Pierre Palmade would not actually have access to the outside. According to information from journalists, it would actually be a room located inside and which would be in poor condition. “It is impossible to see the day and the quality the air is very bad there, is indicated. Pierre Palmade could however receive visits from his relatives and continue his treatment there. An incarceration that may seem complicated for the comedian but the latter did not wish to appeal his conviction.

Pierre Palmade's incarceration is a bit special since he was placed in solitary confinement, in an individual cell. As indicated by BFMTV, he did not go through “the arriving route”. He did not meet anyone and has precise times for walks. This is a special treatment that has already been applied at Gradignan prison for media prisoners or those in sensitive professions. The goal is to protect them from other inmates who might want to attack them. 

Pierre Palmade: “If I have one word to say…”

Tried for “unintentional injuries”, Pierre Palmade knew from the start that he risked going to prison. When the verdict was handed down on November 20, the comedian reportedly did not react. The journalist, Vincent Vantighem, a reporter at BFMTV, was present at the hearing. “With both hands on the lectern, the comedian is not reacting for the moment. The president continues to read the operative part of the judgment, he said. For his part, the main person concerned had spoken a few days earlier, addressing his victims: “If I have a single thought, a single word, it is for the victims. I hope that they can rebuild themselves, I wish it with all my heart. I saw them in real life today, çit shocked me“.
