Never two without three: in 2024 Google now offers three premium Pixel smartphones – the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. Three Android smartphones that take up the fundamentals that have always made these smartphones successful – namely a pure experience exclusively focused on Google services and applications, without the slightest bloatware or other alternatives such as those offered by certain brands.
Above all, these smartphones benefit from the very best of the firm's latest innovations. Often before anyone else. We therefore find there all that is best in terms of AI, with for example the omnipresence of the Gemini models, which replace even Google Assistant. But also, as always, a photo experience as reliable as it is remarkable. All in a familiar design, but which nevertheless evolves further this year in the premium.

The Google Pixel 9 and Google Pixel 9 Pro XL are available for pre-order until August 22, 2024, when they will actually hit stores. The devices are available on the Google Store and at partner retailers.
A small clarification all the same: those who would be tempted by the classic Pixel 9 Pro (non XL) will have to wait a little compared to other customers. According to Google, deliveries will only begin in September, with the rest of the new features unveiled by the firm in mid-August.

Overall, these smartphones inherit a new Tensor G4 chip — the 4th generation of smartphone chips designed by Google in-house. This ushers in the era of AI models running locally. In particular, the latest Gemini models, which replace the Google Assistant experience.

Beyond the futuristic interactions with Gemini Live, the latest Pixel 9 in the series offer new features like Pixel Screenshot – a new way to remember important information, just by taking a screenshot. The information is transformed into text and analyzed, then the user can find what interests him very quickly via an ultra-fast search.
Gemini also joins the weather experience, writing you personalized bulletins on request at any time. All this in addition to a series of new AI features new to this generation, or introduced with the Pixel 8 series.
Google Pixel smartphones have always been renowned for their talents in AI-powered photos, very convincingly overcoming the usual limitations of photo sensors for smartphones that are highly constrained in terms of size.
Of course, the goal here is not to tell you whether or not the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL are the best smartphones in this area this year. But they take what made previous generations successful. And add, in addition to more powerful sensors, new features made possible by the arrival of the latest Gemini models on the device.
The function Add me allows the photographer to insert himself into shots in which he is normally invisible. The Panorama mode has been improved, especially for displaying better looking images in low light. Magic Editor mode is getting new AI-assisted features to make your edits easier.
Reimagineallows you to generate images from text, or review portions of existing images, without the tedious manual operations that normally go hand in hand. Finally, AI allows, in particular through Video Boost to process night videos much more quickly on the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL models.

Google is known for very cautiously evolving the design of its smartphones. However, this year, the changes are more obvious. The casing changes, regardless of the model, to flat edges. The strip at the back disappears in favor of an island housed in the same space, but separated from the edges – the sensors being grouped in a part of this outgrowth, a black enclave with rounded edges centered on the left of the element.
New colors are offered – both more daring and vibrant. The Pro models thus inherit in addition to a white or anthracite dress (Porcelain or Volcanic Black), colors “Rose Quartz” and “Wild Green”. While similar colors are offered on the standard models (“Peony Pink” and “Almond Green”).
