Le meurtrier a gardé jusqu'au bout le secret sur les raisons de ce double crime. ARCHIVES MIDI LIBRE
On August 26, 1981, in Feuilla, in the Aude, a young couple of vacationers, who had come to isolate themselves in this remote corner of the Corbières, were found dead near the sheepfold where they had settled. Arrested after a long and difficult investigation, their murderer, René Camus, who lived as a recluse in nearby caves, would not give any real explanations for his crime. Listen to this new episode of Crimes et justice, François Barrère's podcast, which tells the great criminal stories that have marked the history of our region.

In this torrid month of August 1981, a couple arrived in a Renault 5 on the Mezenac plateau, in the Corbières maritimes, above Feuilla (Aude). They had traveled eight kilometers on a stony track to find themselves alone, far from everything, facing a splendid landscape. In the distance, the rock of Leucate, the beaches, and the sparkling Mediterranean.
Dominique, 31, teaches at the Journalists' Training Center in Paris. Marie-Hélène, 32, is a literature teacher. This married woman knows she is doomed by illness. So she came here, with her lover, to isolate herself from the world and enjoy, for a few more days, love, the sun, life.
On the evening of August 26, a hiker passing near the sheepfold discovered their two bodies. Dominique was killed by two discharges to the neck. Marie-Hélène was hit in the head and lower abdomen. Her skirt was lifted. The car windows were shattered, pulverized by other gunshots. The crime seems to have taken place when the couple were getting ready to leave: the suitcases were in the trunk, as well as a garbage bag. For the police, the mystery is total. Only clue, after hours spent combing this lost plateau: caves, next to there, seem to have been inhabited.
