Using its Gemini AI, Google has developed quite a few features based on generative artificial intelligence. But among the products that have created the most buzz in 2024, there is NotebookML. As a reminder, this is a note-taking application, or even a research assistant based on Gemini. As we explained in a previous article, NotebookLM allows you to put many sources online (PDF document, web page, YouTube video, etc.) and to query the AI to obtain answers that will be based on the information available on these sources (with references).
But that’s not all, since Google has also developed a NotebookLM feature that generates podcast episodes automatically. For example, if I load different sources on a new smartphone on NotebookLM , it will be able to output a podcast on this new product. And the good news for podcast lovers is that Google is testing a similar technology for its Google Discover news feed.

According to our colleagues at 9to5Google, the new feature is called “Daily Listen”. This is still an experiment, which Google is offering to Android and iOS users in the United States. But, in essence, because Google Search and Google Discover know your interests, Google would be able to use its artificial intelligence to generate five-minute podcasts about news stories that are likely to interest you.
The audio player would also provide access to links that allow the user to explore the topics discussed in more detail, while a feedback system (thumbs up or bullet point down) would allow users to flag interesting or uninteresting topics. But for now, this feature is still in its early stages. To access it, American users must register on Search Labs, Google's portal for experimental features. And it’s unclear when “Daily Listen” might arrive in other countries.
- NotebookLM is one of the new Google features that caused a sensation in 2024
- It’s a search assistant that can generate a podcast from documents provided by the user
- Google now wants to offer the same technology on Google Discover
- An experiment called “Daily Listen” generates personalized news podcasts for the user, based on their interests
- But for now, it’s a test reserved for Android and iOS users in the United States
