A historic achievement has just been completed in the Pokémon universe. For 24 hours non-stop, thirty European content creators took turns to unboxing over 1,500 Pokémon Trading Card Game booster packs. The event celebrated the launch of the TCG’s new expansion, Surging Sparks, but it also had a big surprise: all of the cards will be donated to charities.

A World Record That Exceeds Expectations

The Pokémon Company International doesn’t do things by halves. The company brought together content creators from across Europe to break the Guinness World Record for the longest unboxing livestream. 6 French streamers represented France for six hours straight, revealing rare cards.

Pikachu made a surprise appearance at the official Guinness World Records certificate presentation. Fans tuned in to Twitch were able to watch every moment of the performance live.

A Europe-Wide Charity Event

The thousands of unwrapped cards won’t just sit in a closet. The Pokémon Company International has planned a massive redistribution across Europe. The cards will be meticulously categorized into albums to create complete collections. These cardboard treasures will then be donated to renowned charities such as Barnardo’s, KidsOut, Fondazione Banco Alimentare Onlus, Tafel Deutschland and Fundacion Tomillo.

A timely initiative, just before the holiday season.
