Police chase in Gatineau to recover a stolen vehicle

A car theft led to a police chase last night, in Gatineau.

A police chase took place during the night from Saturday to Sunday, in Gatineau, to recover a stolen vehicle.

The Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau (SVPG) received a call shortly after 12:30 a.m. from a citizen who claimed that her Jeep vehicle had been stolen in Ottawa. She was able to geolocate her vehicle near Highway 50 and Boulevard de la Gappe.

The vehicle was located on Highway 50, eastbound. The police attempted to intercept the vehicle as it took the rue des Laurentides exit, without success. It was at this point that the police chase began.

The suspect s' is taken on route 148, heading west, up to rue d'Arizona, in the Angers district. The driver then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

A security perimeter has been set up. The individual was then located and then arrested by the police.

The 24-year-old man, from Thurso, is charged with theft and receiving property over $5,000, refusing to stop, ;#x27;obstruction of police work and breach of commitment and conditions.

On Saturday, the SPVG also had to intervene for the theft of a Jeep brand vehicle at the Casino du Lac-Leamy.

A national summit to combat vehicle theft will take place on February 8 in Ottawa and will bring together municipal police forces and provincial governments, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Canada Border Services Agency and automobile manufacturers.
