For many weeks, Canada has been experiencing an unprecedented political crisis. This Monday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation after spending nearly ten years at the head of the government.

He remains in office while waiting for his successor

He indicated that he would remain in power until his party designates a successor. “I intend to resign as party leader and prime minister once the party has chosen its next leader,”, he told reporters in the capital Ottawa.

Nearly a decade after coming to power, Justin Trudeau, 53, has been under pressure for weeks as a legislative election looms and his party is at rock bottom in the polls.
