Professional resentment and screwdriver: former maintenance worker attacks former colleague as she leaves work in Montpellier

The victim was leaving her workplace, a primary school in the Ovalie district, when she was attacked by a former colleague. She claims that the latter was armed with a screwdriver. The origin of the events was a resentment that had been simmering since January 2024.

A 32-year-old woman was attacked in the street by a former work colleague on Wednesday, January 8, in the Ovalie district, west of Montpellier. According to the victim, the 47-year-old woman threw herself at her, hit her several times and pulled her hair. She and a witness claim that the perpetrator was armed with a screwdriver. However, the thirty-year-old did not have any bleeding wounds and was not given temporary incapacity for work. She filed a complaint with the Pignan gendarmerie, before the procedure was transferred to the Montpellier police station.

A grudge dating back to January 2024

This act of violence occurred while the victim, a maintenance and catering agent at the Germaine-Richier primary school, was leaving work. It was in a nearby alley that she was accosted by the accused, who previously held the same position within the school. Two men intervened to help her.

According to the evidence gathered by investigators from the national police, a professional grudge dating back to January 2024 motivated the forty-year-old's action. The latter, who has since been dismissed from her position, allegedly blames the victim for having testified against her after an altercation between her and another employee of the school. She thus holds her responsible for the loss of her job.

She denies premeditation

In police custody, the person concerned admitted to the violence, as well as the altercation with the other colleague a year ago. However, she denies having premeditated her action on January 8, as well as having a screwdriver in her possession at the time of the events. She also refutes the accusations of theft of personal effects that the victim brings against her.

The investigations also revealed a history of telephone harassment by the accused against her victim. These elements are added to the prosecution she is subject to, for aggravated violence with use or threat of a weapon. She will be tried on March 4 in the criminal court.
