PS5 Pro: the first feedback is unanimous, the console suffers from a major flaw

Arrived ;e on the market a few hours ago, Sony's new console has been the subject of debate since its announcement last September. Many questions were raised about its usefulness and relevance. The question of price was also causing a lot of controversy within the video game community.

Ultimately, the PS5 Pro is nothing more or less than an improved version of the PS5. But does it deserve it? ? A quick look at the first tests from the specialist press.

A revolutionary console

With its new PS5 Pro, Sony intends to make an impression. Specialist critics who have been able to test it unanimously express their enthusiasm for its power and performance, which are unmatched to date.

PresseCitron does not fail to express its happiness by writing that the release of the PS5 Pro “marks a decisive turning point” in the video game industry. With unrivaled power, 28% faster memory than the PS5 and 67% more processing units, Sony promises a much more powerful console. 

The image: the main asset of the PS5 Pro

Finally, let's mention the image quality, the main feature of the console. Capable of running a game in 4K/60FPS, Numerama emphasizes the gaming experience, much more immersive and impressive. PresseCitron highlights the importance of ray tracing, which greatly improves water reflections, transparency effects and even metallic surfaces.

For even more realism in its games, the PS5 Pro now relies on artificial intelligence: PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). Thanks to this new technology, upscaling will be significantly improved. The console will be able to offer sharp images in 4K, while maintaining ideal performance. 

The graphical revolution is more than notable for certain games, such as Dragon's Dogma 2, No Man's Sky or Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Completely reworked, these titles seem “unrecognizable”, still according to Numerama.

Unequal image quality

Promising the moon in terms of image, the PS5 Pro still has some flaws. Numerama notes that not all games are optimized in the same way, with “good students, very good students and “average students”. Graphical differences that call into question the high price Rise of Ronin, or same Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, features visuals that are nearly identical to the basic PS5.

A console that doesn't offer a disc drive

With its new model, Sony is urging its players to switch to all-digital. With the PS5 Pro, it is impossible to insert any disc, because no reader is included in the console. The only way to read your games in physical format is to buy another reader, sold separately. However, this gadget has been out of stock for several weeks and there is little chance of acquiring it at the moment.

Are the additions of the PS5 Pro worth these 800 euros ?

Despite its positive aspects, the PS5 Pro is obscured by a major black spot: its price. Offered at €799.99 on the official website, the console is definitely not accessible to everyone. Most gamers cannot afford to pay such a sum, especially since the PS5 Slim sells for €549.99. (still on the PlayStation page). 

This 250 euro gap is intended to mark a move to the high end of the market for this optimized model. PlayStation is targeting a fairly small audience, and this aspect has been unanimously noted by critics. The latter then wondered whether the price increase was worth it. Do the new features of the PS5 Pro deserve these 250 euros of difference?

For most critics, including JVTech, there is no point in buying the new PS5 Pro if you already own its little sister. The evolution between the models is not exuberant and does not deserve spending new bills, especially since no exclusive games are planned for this high-end version.

Recently available, the PS5 Pro is not yet benefiting from reductions. Large stores such as FNAC, Amazon, Rakuten, Boulanger or Leclerc sell the product at the same price. You will certainly have to wait a few months before seeing potential promotions as was the case with previous PS5 models.
