The Montpellier Criminal Court pronounced this Thursday, February 6, the acquittal of the septuagenarian tried on January 30 for serious abuse or acts of cruelty towards a domestic animal. This resident of Moulès-et-Baucels, near Ganges, had been implicated after the discovery, on September 1, in the scrubland, of several dead puppies placed in a bag. The latter bore the name of the defendant.
However, at the end of the debates, the prosecutor had considered “not having enough evidence to establish the judicial truth” in this case. While stating that his “intimate conviction” was that the septuagenarian had indeed abandoned the puppies, the representative of the public prosecutor had requested an acquittal. His lawyer, Me Maïlis Andrieu, had notably argued that it was “not possible to establish the filiation” between his client's dog and the puppies.
This Thursday, February 6, the court also ordered the return of the dogs seized from the defendant's home, and since placed in shelters. These are four animals belonging to him and two others in his care.
