Millau launches a group purchasing operation for gas and electricity to preserve the purchasing power of residents.

Faced with the continuous rise in energy prices, the community of communes of Millau Grands Causses is joining forces with Avez-vous Groupés to, as the name suggests, launch a group purchasing initiative for gas and electricity.

This free and non-binding approach aims to enable residents of the area to make substantial savings while accessing more environmentally friendly energy offers.

A “collective solution” to counter the energy surge

The principle of group purchasing is simple: gather as many registrations as possible to negotiate advantageous rates with energy suppliers. Its objective: to reduce household bills while encouraging greener offers.

“We want to give residents the means to save on their energy bills, while facilitating access to more environmentally friendly electricity”, explains Séverine Peyretout, community councilor delegated to energy and mobility.

Registration, open until February 28, 2025, is done via a QR code or a dedicated online platform. Participants will then receive a negotiated energy offer proposal, which they are free to accept or not.

A simple and non-binding participation

According to feedback from similar experiences, particularly in Bondy or in the Morlaix community of communes, subscribers can hope to save on average up to 250 euros per year on their energy bill. Julien Froidure, representative of Achetons Groupés, specifies that the call for tenders will be based on the total volume of registrations and the energy needs of the registered households.

“The more participants we bring together, the more weight we will have to negotiate competitive rates”, he stressed. Once the registrations have been validated, suppliers will be invited to propose offers, including 100% green electricity, to meet the expectations of residents.

The initiative stands out for its simplicity and lack of constraints

Individuals can register for free and without obligation to adhere to the proposed offer. “It is a flexible system. Once the offer is received, participants can decide to subscribe to it or stay with their current supplier”, reassures the elected official.

A collective approach for a sustainable future operation embodies a philosophy of solidarity and collective action. “In Millau, we believe that together we can go further. This group purchasing initiative is a perfect illustration of this”, concluded Séverine Peyretout. For more information or to register, residents are invited to consult the communication materials distributed by the community of communes.

A global policy in favor of purchasing power

This initiative is part of a broader strategy led by the community to support the purchasing power of citizens. “Further proof of Millau Grands Causses' commitment to improving the daily lives of its residents while building a more sustainable future”, recalledé Séverine Peyretout. Among these initiatives, free museum or school transport, reduced rates for sports activities and the school canteen, a municipal mutual insurance company offering up to 25% off certain contributions, “suspended tickets” to the theater of the Maison du Peuple, offers for sports practice with. For the community advisor, “these measures show our desire to take concrete action to support residents in the face of inflation and financial difficulties”. This approach is further proof of Millau Grands Causses' commitment to improving the daily lives of its residents while building a more sustainable future.
