You live in or go to Paris during the 2024 Olympic Games, and you are wondering whether or not you will need a QR Code to access your residence, get to work or everything simply move freely around the capital ? A QR Code is actually mandatory during the period of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in certain areas.

In this file, we explain how to know if you are affected by this QR Code, and which one you should actually request depending on your case.

Two types of Games Pass (the famous QR Code) are published free of charge by the city of Paris. They are mandatory for traveling either with a motorized vehicle or on foot, depending on your situation. The obligation to present it applies in two specific areas and periods. These two areas are called “Red Perimeter” and “Gray perimeter”.

The Red perimeter is drawn around the Olympic and Paralympic venues and around the para-cycling event. A QR code is not obligatory, however during the games period – from 07/18 to 07/26 – motorized traffic is prohibited. Only pedestrians, cyclists and scooters are allowed. In certain cases, exemptions may be requested from the town hall.

The Gray perimeteris more restrictive. It runs around the Seine and certain sites. Throughout the games period, anyone over the age of 13 can only travel there if they have a Games Pass, from July 18 until July 26 at 1:00 p.m. from this time, spectators with a ticket will also be able to access this space.

A priori few exemptions will be possible for motorized vehicles, which will have to hold a special digital Pass in the gray zone, for security reasons.

Only residents, workers, professionals, visitors (AirBnB, medical appointments) can request it by providing the necessary supporting documents. Examination of the request may take between 24 hours and a few days… it is therefore advisable to request the precious sesame sufficiently in advance.

Note that this QR Code is nominative and individual, and obligatory for all persons over 13 years old. If you have children over 13, you should therefore remember to also request a QR Code for them. The application must be made by a person having legal custody.

However, passing through these areas via the metro does not require requesting a Games Pass. However, the stations within this area are closed during the opening ceremony and the 8 days preceding the ceremony.

Everything happens online:

  • Go to Pass-jeux.gouv.fr the official website to complete your request.
  • Choose an area for which you need a Pass: red zone (for vehicles) or gray zone (pedestrians, cyclists, scooters).
  • Select the reason for your request (resident, professional, visitor).
  • Complete the form.
  • < li>Provide proof of identity (Identity card/CNI, Passport, Driving license or Residence permit) as well as a photo in approved passport format.

  • Indicate an address, the one for which you need access to the area.
  • Provide proof that you need access to this address (electricity bill, reservation, certificate from your employer, etc.).
  • < /ul>

After examination, the QR Code will be delivered to you in electronic form. Note that if you need to change accommodation, and if this remains possible in the red zone, no request will be accepted during the restriction period for the gray zone. These free QR Codes do not, moreover, allow access to the games.
