Catherine Lemay, who took office in 2021, was the first person to hold the position of national director, created the same year by Minister Carmant.
On Friday, Québec solidaire had already demanded her departure, after allegations of “sexual proximity” and “drug trafficking” had shaken a rehabilitation centre for troubled youth in Montreal, the Cité-des-Prairies centre. “We can no longer tolerate what is happening, the situation is not improving,” said the Solidaire spokesperson for youth protection, Guillaume Cliche-Rivard.
At a press conference on Friday, Minister Carmant did not go so far as to demand that Ms. Lemay resign. “It’s heartbreaking, there are no other words. “It's sickening,” he repeated when asked about the disturbing facts revealed in Cité-des-Prairies.
