As the world embraces artificial intelligence in droves, the Raspberry Pi DIY community won't be left behind. In June, Raspberry Pi announced a module called AI Kit for the Raspberry Pi 5, developed with Halio, which provides this microcomputer with a computing power of 13 tera operations per second for functionalities based on artificial intelligence. And this week, the foundation is announcing another product that was developed with Sony: the Raspberry Pi AI Camera.

A module dedicated to image processing

Compatible with Raspberry Pi microcomputers, this new module should cost around $70 (the recommended price excluding taxes). And the advantage of this sensor is that it is capable of handling the processing of visual information, in addition to including a photo sensor.

“Since vision data is generally large, using it to develop AI solutions can require a graphics processing unit (GPU), an accelerator, and various other components in addition to a camera. The new Raspberry Pi AI Camera, however, is equipped with the IMX500 smart vision sensor that handles the AI processing, making it easy to develop cutting-edge AI solutions with just a Raspberry Pi and the AI camera”, explains the press release.

  • Raspberry Pi microcomputers are gaining new AI capabilities thanks to a module developed with Sony
  • Equipped with a Sony IMX500 sensor, this module allows microcomputers to have new visual information processing features
  • Indeed, it is the sensor that manages the processing of artificial intelligence
