Reddit Launches New AI That Can Change Its Destiny

Reddit Answers is the name of the chatbot currently being tested by the social network that will attempt to correct a flaw that is putting it in danger. What is this AI and can it be a game-changer? ? Here's everything you need to know.

Why it's a good idea ?

According to information from Bloomberg, Reddit is looking for a way to improve its search capabilities. While the platform is a wealth of information of all kinds, finding it is often like looking for a needle in a haystack. So, Internet users tend to turn to external search engines, often Google, in order to find the rare gem on one of the 100,000 subreddits.

As you might imagine, and while AIs like ChatGPT and their rivals tend to summarize information directly, this could end up costing Reddit a lot in terms of traffic. And this is where Reddit Answers could make all the difference.

Quoted by the American media, Serkan Piantino, the company's vice president of products, does not mince his words: “It is clear that searching on Reddit is one of the main ways people use the Internet. It’s my job and our mission to make sure that if you want to search Reddit in any format, we’re the best at doing it.”

A partnership between Reddit and Google

As you can see, this initiative can only work if this chatbot is really up to par and satisfies Internet users. For now, the latter is deployed to a small number of users in the United States. The idea is to make it accessible in other countries and other languages soon. As for its mode of operation, Reddit Answers relies on AI models created internally, but also those of Google and OpenAI, according to the company.

As a reminder, Google and Reddit recently sealed a partnership. For $60 million per year, the social network shares its users' publications with the Mountain View firm, which uses them to train its generative artificial intelligence models.

Reddit commented as follows:“Our collaboration with Google will make it easier for people to find, discover, and engage with the Reddit content and communities that matter most to them.” To learn more about this agreement, feel free to reread our previous article here.
