An exceptional exhibition, in two parts, one at the sacred museum of Pont-Saint-Esprit, the other at the Albert-André museum of Bagnols-sur-Cèze, presents from December 14, 2024 to May 4, 2025 the figurative paintings of great painters from their collections.

Repainted walls, here and there colored, a more airy hanging, a different light… It was no less than that to welcome the exceptional exhibition presented at the Albert-André museum in Bagnols-sur-Cèze, whose opening took place on Friday, December 13. A unique exhibition, in two parts, the other being to be seen at the sacred art museum in Pont-Saint-Esprit.

A tribute to the four personalities who enriched the collection

In the four rooms thus modernized, masterpieces of great painters, from Renoir to Van Dongen via Signac or Marquet, are put into perspective with the history of this museum, one of the first of modern art in the provinces in the first half of the 20th century. At the entrance to each of them, a panel pays tribute to one of the four personalities who contributed to the creation of the museum's rich collection – Léon Alègre, Albert André, Jacqueline Bret-André and George Besson – before discovering the works that they were able to bring together.

We wanted to show the museum's major works, and decipher the history of the donations that have continued to enrich this collection” explains Lucienne Del'Furia, the director of conservation of the Gard museums, curator of the exhibition. “We have selected 140 works presented at the Bagnols museum and the Pont-Saint-Esprit museum”.

Exhibition “From Renoir to Van Dongen”, from December 14, 2024 to May 5, 2025. At the Pont-Saint-Esprit museum of sacred art and the Albert-André museum in Bagnols-sur-Cèze. Free admission.
