On the occasion of the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, this Saturday, December 7, 2024, affected by a fire in 2019, a special system is being put in place on many French television channels.
It’s a historic weekend that awaits France. This Saturday, December 7, the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris will reopen its doors, after being renovated for nearly five years. The religious building located in the heart of the capital had been hit by a violent fire, causing the collapse of the nave, the roof and its famous spire.
Half a decade later, the cathedral is preparing to reopen its doors after a makeover. For the occasion, an unprecedented weekend is in store.
Concerts, visits, speeches by the President, masses… A busy program is expected for this Saturday and Sunday, in the presence of many personalities. Senior political leaders, such as Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky, are expected to be present.
On site or on television, it will be possible to follow the ceremony. A very special arrangement is being put in place on many French television channels. France 2 will broadcast programs devoted to the cathedral's restoration process throughout the day from 6:30 a.m. and will also have a live broadcast on the forecourt. The news channels (BFMTV, CNews and LCI) will also be mobilized all weekend.
The show Notre-Dame: the ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will take place after Emmanuel Macron's speech. This will be followed by a concert by several French artists such as Vianney, Garou and Clara Luciani. It will take place on the Île de la Cité.
The show Le jour du Seigneur will take place at Notre-Dame on Sunday, December 8, the date it reopens to the public. It will be broadcast on France 2 from 10:30 a.m. with the presence of the Head of State.
