It was in a letter addressed this Tuesday, January 28, to the residents of Portes that François Selle, mayor of the town since 2020, announced his resignation to his constituents. A decision motivated by health reasons, consequences of a major surgical operation and complications that require a long convalescence. In his letter, he explains: “Out of a sense of responsibility, I have decided to resign from my duties as mayor. This choice, as difficult as it may be, seems to me today essential to guarantee our municipality a management that meets its needs and your expectations.”

Not the end of his “commitment”

Despite his withdrawal, the former mayor is not abandoning municipal life: “This step does not mark the end of my commitment to our town. As a municipal councillor, I will continue to monitor ongoing projects, support the municipal team and contribute, to the extent of my possibilities, to the development of the initiatives that we have built together.”

François Selle also keeps his eyes on the future and does not rule out running again in 2026, once he has recovered: “Portes will always remain at the heart of my concerns. This is why, as soon as I am fully recovered, I intend to run again during the next term of office to continue working with you on the development and future of our town.”

The now former mayor made a point of warmly greeting the people of Porto. A city council will meet the first week of February to choose a new mayor from among the current council members.
