Rugby federal 3: RCSA narrowly wins 25 to 23 on its home turf against Audois de Quillan

Les Saint Affricains ont bien défendu en seconde mi-temps. MIDI LIBRE – M.DURAND

Dominés en seconde période, les Saint-Affricains ont su préserver leur avantage.

For the last match before the break, the weather conditions were difficult to say the least for the thirty players with wind and rain. The RCSA started off well with two penalties that allowed the locals to quickly lead the score (6-0). The Aude players then reacted and scored a try through their pillar Tchouta. Four minutes later they did it again through Molini concluding an action that benefited from the generosity of the St-Affrique defense. On the defensive, the yellow and blue then committed numerous mistakes that did not benefit their opponents. However, they got back on track thanks to a new penalty from Castan (9-10).

Big defensive error by Saint-Affrique

Almost immediately after, the Aude team responded and increased their advantage with a try from winger Gomez Climent, once again taking advantage of an opposing defensive error (9-15). The southern Aveyron team kept in touch with the score thanks to a penalty from Castan. A try from Prieu allowed them to regain the lead shortly before half-time.

A half-time whistled with the score at 19 to 15 for the RCSA. The start of the second period was to the advantage of the Saint Africains who managed to increase the score with a penalty. Little by little, the Aude team got their hands on the ball and showed themselves to be more enterprising against an opponent confined to their own half. With the support of the wind and the solidity of their pack, they multiplied the playing time in the opposing camp without being able to deceive the southern Aveyron defense.

A rare highlight in the Aude camp

They added three points thanks to a penalty from Géri (22-18). It was not expensive considering their dominance in the running game. Against them, the Saint Affricains put up the barbed wire and even managed to score three more points on one of their rare strong moments in the Aude camp. The Aude players continued to attack and could at least hope for a draw with a converted try.

Four minutes from the final whistle, they were rewarded after several strong moments near the line by scoring a try by Ankour. A try that was not converted. The end of the game was particularly difficult for the yellow and blue who defended well allowing the team to save this slim advantage to finally win 25 to 23. An important courageous victory before the break during which the infirmary should empty.
