Saint-Affrique a maintenant un pied en Régionale 1. Midi libre – Michel Durand

Cette défaite en Ariège -36-8) met Saint-Affrique dans une situation délicate pour la fin de saison.

After finishing the year with two convincing home victories, this weekend RCSA started 2025 with a big disappointment in Tarascon. It is the only team that lost to Ariégeois who until now had not had a single victory under their belt. If the lights were green before this trip, they are now red: Saint-Affrique is now relegated with Tarascon and equal on points with RC Trèbes.

Two injuries in the first half

This Sunday's match had started well with a penalty from Castan allowing the yellow and blue to lead for the first and last time in the game. Subsequently, a try and a penalty from the Ariégeois allowed them to take the lead and lead 15-3 at the end of the first period. During these first 40 minutes, Castan and Ferrero went off injured, which perhaps destabilized the group a little. However, everything was still possible but a try on interception by the locals definitively put an end to the hopes of the South Aveyron team. They subsequently conceded three additional tries. Fabre's try a quarter of an hour from the end did not change anything. The Saint-Affricains finally suffered a heavy defeat with a score of 36-8.

“We suffered the whole match”

Patrick Galtier, the president of the RCSA was at the very least disappointed and realistic in the face of the scale of this defeat: “We suffered the whole match. We missed the tackles. Our opponents fully deserved their victory… Castan's injury due to bleeding may have demobilized the group. The players were perhaps too confident before the start of the match against the last in the group. We now have one foot in regional 1!” The only bright spot came from the reserve team which, despite playing with 14 players for a large part of the match, managed to snatch victory (8-10). The reception of RC Salvetat Plaisance next weekend will be decisive for the rest of the championship.
