Rugby Union: in Federal 2, the English had their bells rung by Avignon-Le Pontet

A home loss for the English, overthrown by Avignon-Le Pontet. Midi Libre – Alain Schetrit

On Saturday, RCAGR suffered its first home defeat of the season on matchday 12 of Fédérale 2, losing 20-28 to USAP 84.

RCAGR is no longer undefeated at home. After five wins, it fell on Saturday, December 21, against Avignon-Le Pontet, who took revenge on the first leg, won 16-12 by the English.

Six days after beating Monaco, the men of the Mattera-Foissac duo were unable to follow up against another team in the top 5. The Monegasques, winners 34-20 over Fréjus/Saint-Raphaël, took advantage of this third defeat by the Gardois to regain the lead in group 3. USAP 84, for its part, came back to within one length of the English.

The ranking of group 3 of Fédérale 2

In front of a thousand spectators, the English dominated the first act, quickly getting the machine going and the pressure on. Joly offered a superb ball in the corner to Fons who went for the try (7-0, 9th). In a slightly tense climate, Joly added three points on foot (10-0, 11th).

The English in front at the break

The game was easy to analyze. Despite multiple mistakes in the scrum, USAP 84 pushed the English defense, which held its own. RCAGR was in front but multiplied the unwon touches and the poorly assured passes. At half-time, he still had a bit of a cushion since he responded to Monié's penalty (10-3, 37th), with a try – converted – by Boulkenafet (17-3, 40th).

The Vauclusiens press and overturn everything

In the second half, the Vauclusiens pressed, put the English at fault and scored two tries following two penalty touches, the first by Monié (17-8, 42nd), the second by the strong winger Agullo (17-15, 50th).

The English team no longer responded. Too many balls were lost. Joly passed a penalty well (20-15, 69th) but the Gardois had their bells rung by the Vauclusiens who went wild in the last minutes, with a try (20-22, 76th), a drop goal (20-25, 79th) and a penalty (20-28, 80th). The RCAGR was chocolate!
