Russian hackers claim responsibility for several attacks on community websites, including Nîmes, Nice, Marseille according to France info

The websites of the cities of Nîmes, Montpellier, Marseille, Nice, Tarbes and Pau were reportedly targeted by Russian hackers this Tuesday. This is what France info reveals: “Pro-Russian activists launched an attack against the websites of several French communities on Tuesday, December 31, franceinfo learned by consulting the claim message on Telegram“, explains the France info website.

The hacker group, belonging to the Noname057 group(16) is said to have used“a so-called denial of service attack, which consists of flooding a specific connection site until it crashes”, according to France info.

The mayor of Nice Christian Estrosi reacted on X: “The City of Nice website was targeted by a denial of service attack. Our technical teams and our hosting provider are fully mobilized to restore services as soon as possible. At this stage, no data leak has been detected. This serious and unacceptable act will be the subject of a complaint and a report to the ANSS.”

Contacted, the Nîmes deputy for the connected city Frédéric Escojido indicates that he has become aware of a “recent phishing attack, detected in time. There is no data leak”. However, the communications department of the city of Nîmes added that the IT services did not detect any attack on December 31. The sites of the city of Nîmes nimes.fr (services) and vivrenimes.fr (communication) were nevertheless running slowly at the beginning of the afternoon on Tuesday.

“The cities of Nice, Tarbes, Pau, Marseille, Nîmes as well as the departments of Landes and Haute-Garonne were still experiencing problems at noon on Tuesday. However, the sites of online administrative procedures, public services in New Caledonia and French Polynesia, and that of the city hall of Montpellier were restored”, i also indicated France info.
