In 2023, Apple finally entered the AR/VR field. During his WWDC conference, he lifted the veil on his Vision Pro headset which he describes as a spatial computer, and which combines virtual reality and augmented reality. The Vision Pro will be marketed starting this year. And once this headset is available, Apple will officially compete with Meta, Mark Zuckerberg's company, in AR/VR.

For its part, Samsung is preparing to launch a similar product. In early 2023, the Korean giant announced that it was working on an augmented reality product in partnership with Google and Qualcomm. At the moment, we do not know when this product will be revealed. But in the meantime, new technical details have come out. Indeed, Qualcomm has just lifted the veil on a new processor intended for mixed reality experiences, which will be used by Samsung and Google.

An upgraded version of the XR2 Gen 2

The chip is called Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 and compared to the XR2 Gen2 unveiled in September, this “+” version benefits from a 15% increase in CPU performance and a 20% increase in GPU performance. Otherwise, Qualcomm also says the chip will be able to produce 4.3K resolution per eye on virtual reality or augmented reality headsets, at a refresh rate of 90 fps. It will also be able to manage 12 cameras at the same time.
For the moment, Samsung is not giving details on how it will exploit these capabilities. But he says he is delighted to “collaborate with Qualcomm Technologies and Google to once again revolutionize the mobile industry.”

“We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies and Samsung on the future of immersive and spatial XR”, for his part, declared Shahram Izadi, vice president of augmented reality at Google. “We are excited that the Android ecosystem will benefit from the capabilities of Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 and enable new experiences.”

< h2>New information on January 17 ?
