In early 2023, during the presentation of its high-end smartphones, Samsung announced a partnership with Qualcomm and Google to develop a mixed reality product. And today, the fruit of this partnership has finally been revealed by the manufacturer. Indeed, while Google has just made its Android XR platform official, Samsung is lifting the veil on the Moohan project (“infinity”, in Korean).
For the moment, Samsung is not mentioning the technical sheet, but is already presenting the design. As you can see in the image above, the Moohan headset will have a form factor similar to that of the Vision Pro or the Quest headsets from the Meta group. We also know that this product will be the first headset designed for Android XR. And, in its announcement, Google indicates that Samsung’s headset will be available in 2025.
In its press release, Samsung mentions cutting-edge screens and a “Passthrough” feature that will allow you to enjoy augmented reality. Otherwise, thanks to Google’s presentation of Android XR, we already have an idea of the features that will be available on this future competitor of the Vision Pro.
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000With Android XR, the headset will benefit from integration with Gemini, which will serve as an assistant. This assistant can be used to control the device, ask questions, but it can also answer questions from the user about the objects around it. As for applications, the Moohan headset will benefit from Google products and services, such as Google Chrome, YouTube and Google Maps. Android XR will also have its own Play Store, and will be able to launch applications designed for smartphones, on virtual screens.
But, of course, there will also be third-party applications specially designed for Android XR. And besides, developers can already start creating these applications, using the preview version that has just been launched by Google.
For the moment, we do not know the launch date of the Moohan project. It is also not yet known how much this headset will cost. But if Samsung sells it at a relatively affordable price, the Korean giant could overshadow Apple's Vision Pro, which costs 3,999 euros.
