Samsung is developing revolutionary technology that will make you forget about the Apple Watch

Smartwatches and bracelets are first and foremost health accessories. Users can count their steps, track their physical activity in general, and most of these products include sensors that allow them to monitor their health (heart rate, oxygen levels, ECG, etc.). However, no smartwatch currently offers a sensor to monitor blood sugar levels. To find out what this level is, a small prick is needed to take a drop of blood to test.

But the good news is that Samsung is developing an optical sensor that would allow for accurate blood sugar estimation, without pricking, and that could be integrated into wearables. As reported by our colleagues at Android Authority, this work was revealed by Hon Pak, senior vice president at Samsung, during a forum on Samsung Health. “What really excites me is that our team, as you may have guessed, is working on an optical-based, non-invasive continuous glucose monitor. I can’t tell you when it’s going to launch, but I’m very excited about the progress we’re making and if we can do that, it’s going to be a game changer,” he reportedly said, according to Android Authority.

Is Samsung Confident? ?

For the moment, we do not know when this technology will be available on Samsung smartwatches. But the manufacturer's research is now sufficiently advanced that it has allowed itself to speak about it publicly. As a result, some media even believe that Samsung could include its sugar level sensor in its next generation of smartwatches, which will be released this year. But for the moment, this is only a hypothesis.

Otherwise, it should be noted that rumors also mention research in this area at Apple. However, it seems likely that the blood sugar sensor will not be available on the Apple Watch in the near future.

  • Smartwatches are loaded with sensors, but no model is yet able to estimate blood sugar levels
  • However, Samsung is already working on an optical sensor to measure this rate and according to a manager, the manufacturer has made progress
  • Some media even believe that the first Samsung watch capable of measuring blood sugar levels (without taking a sample) could arrive this year
