The smart glasses offered by the Meta group and Ray-Ban are becoming increasingly popular. And this format now seems to interest other brands. For some time now, rumors have suggested that Apple is developing smart glasses. And today, unofficial sources are also talking about the development of a similar product by Samsung. In an article published a few days ago, the Korean economic media Maeil Business Newspaper relays a note that was allegedly published by a Chinese research company, Wellsen XR, which allegedly mentions Samsung's project.
Samsung reportedly intends to market smart glasses centered on artificial intelligence in the third quarter of 2025, and is considering an initial production of 500,000 units. This product would apparently have many similarities with Meta and Ray-Ban glasses, since the media article does not mention a screen. In addition, Samsung's glasses would use Qualcomm's AR1 chip, which is also used by Meta. The device would have a 155 mAh battery and a 12-megapixel Sony camera.
This product would be able to make payments thanks to QR code detection, would have a gesture control system and would integrate Gemini, Google's artificial intelligence. For the moment, however, caution is still advised, as this is unofficial information. But as mentioned above, it is possible that the success of Meta and Ray-Ban glasses has inspired Samsung. “Demand for glasses continues to be very strong. The new transparent edition we launched at Connect sold out almost immediately, trading online for over a thousand dollars”, said Mark Zuckerberg during Meta's quarterly results presentation at the end of October.
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000Another smartphone manufacturer, Xiaomi, could also launch its first smart glasses in 2025. This is in any case what is suggested by a publication of 36kr.com, relayed by our colleagues at TechRadar. This product would be planned for the second quarter of 2025, and could be presented at the Mi Fan Festival event in April. Xiaomi would envisage an initial production of 300,000 units. And if the publication does not mention the characteristics, it explains that Xiaomi would position its glasses as an alternative to the product of Meta and Ray Ban. However, it is likely that the Chinese brand will offer its glasses at a more affordable price.
Meanwhile, other brands including Oppo, Vivo, Huawei, and Tencent are also reportedly considering launching AI-centric smart glasses. Even TikTok creator ByteDance is reportedly interested in the market. However, Xiaomi’s advantage is that it will have no difficulty finding chips for its glasses, and it also has a strong global presence and in the Chinese market, unlike Huawei, for example, which has a limited global presence and is subject to sanctions.
