Samsung Moohan: why this new device is making headlines ?

According to new information from Business Insider, a new Samsung virtual reality headset, called Moohan< /em> internally, could see the light of day in October 2024 in developer version. However, we don't know much more at the moment, except that the device could be powered by a Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm. No Exynos under the hood, then.

This future mount should have what it takes to directly compete with the Apple Vision Pro, according to the American magazine. As a reminder, the value proposition of the headed headset gives pride of place to two 4K screens inside, as well as M2 and R1 chips for performance. The manufacturer also thought about adding sixteen gigabytes of RAM for multitasking, which visionOS, the operating system, does very well.

What platform for the Moohan ?

Before all things considered, let us point out that Moohan should not be the final brand chosen by Samsung for its future mixed reality headset. Indeed, this is the confidential nomenclature of the Korean firm, apparently reserved for its teams before the proper formalization of the device.

Moreover, it is assumed that this future product could be powered by a new operating system. Google has already been mentioned as a potential partner of Samsung for the software. So we can imagine that the famous Android XR, which has recently caused a stir, will perhaps be the lucky one. It is difficult to see more clearly for the moment, however, because neither Alphabet nor the chaebol have confirmed this information. Recently, new Galaxy smartphones were indeed presented at the traditional annual Unpacked conference. But no new augmented reality solution has emerged at the same time.

A market on the verge of being democratized

With the Apple Vision Pro, Cupertino seems to have convinced and should respect its promise to sell nearly half a million units in 2024. But this item remains uncomfortable, too expensive and too powerful for many. So only a future version, more affordable and above all more durable, could convince consumers more. Except that this edition is not likely to see the light of day before 2027, according to analysts (in mainland France).

Consequently, it is a boulevard which opens here for Samsung, Apple's number one competitor internationally. Will the Asian company then be able to once again experience the success that its Gear VR has only timidly achieved??
