Samsung VS Apple, who sells more smartphones right now ?

Samsung Takes Back the Reins of the Global Smartphone Market in Q2 2024 , according to a recent analysis by Canalys. The Korean giant has 18% of the market share, closely followed by Apple at 16%.

The gap between the two giants has therefore narrowed considerably, from 4 points in 2023 to just 2 points this year. If we compare it with 2023, the difference was still clearer with a difference of 4 points, once again in favor of Samsung.

AI, the new high-end battle horse

Samsung's performance in the premium segment is largely explained by the success of Galaxy AI, its suite of artificial intelligence tools. While Apple is not far behind with its “Apple Intelligence”, Samsung seems to stand out by strengthening Galaxy AI with One UI 6.1.1. A confirmation with regard to AI, which has become a strong argument in the race for innovation and on which most manufacturers are now focused.

The top 5 is completed by Xiaomi (15%), followed by Vivo and Transsion (9% each). In total, 288 million smartphones were sold between April and June 2024, an increase of 12% compared to the previous quarter. This growth, which is in its third consecutive quarter, bodes well for the entire sector, which has been losing momentum for several years now.

Foldable smartphones, Samsung's new ace up its sleeve ?

In early July, Samsung unveiled its new foldable models, the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6. Having met with some success, the foldables are an additional weapon in Samsung's arsenal against Apple.

The American brand apparently not being decided to offer such a model, the Korean is taking advantage to take a head ahead here. If this trend continues, Samsung could see its market share climb even further in the third quarter of 2024.
