Samsung's new assistant will make you forget ChatGPT, Gemini and Siri

Since the start of the year, Samsung has relied heavily on artificial intelligence to sell its smartphones. Indeed, the Galaxy S24, the Galaxy S24 Plus and the Galaxy S24 Ultra benefit from a big new feature called Galaxy AI, which integrates many features based on generative artificial intelligence. These features later arrived on older models, like the Galaxy S23. And of course, Galaxy AI is also available on the Galaxy Z Fold6 and the Galaxy Z Flip6, the new folding smartphones that the manufacturer has just presented in Paris.

However, the manufacturer is already working on another major development for its smartphones: a new assistant that will rely on large language models, the type of artificial intelligence that powers chatbots like ChatGPT or Gemini. Like many digital giants, Samsung is developing its own major language model, which is already used internally. And as reported by CNBC, the boss of Samsung's mobile division, TM Roh, recently announced that the manufacturer will offer a new version of its Bixby assistant which will be based on generative artificial intelligence. This Bixby update, which will include a large language model, will be presented this year.

For now, we don't have any technical details. And we don't know which models will be compatible. However, this improved version of Bixby, which is already integrated into Samsung smartphones, should allow users to have more natural interactions with Samsung's assistant. This assistant should also, thanks to generative artificial intelligence, be able to handle more complex requests. In any case, by developing this improved version of Bixby, Samsung is making sure not to lag behind the competition. Indeed, in June, Apple presented Apple Intelligence, which includes a more powerful version of its Siri assistant. As for Google, it seems to be gradually replacing Google Assistant with its Gemini chatbot on Android smartphones.

Samsung promises Galaxy AI for 200 million devices

Apple made a big impression when it presented Apple Intelligence at its WWDC conference in June. But unfortunately, the company's new AI features will only be compatible with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, probably due to a lack of RAM on other iPhone models. This is not intentional, but in any case, we already expect an increase in iPhone sales, as many users will replace their current iPhones with a model compatible with Apple Intelligence.

Samsung, for its part, seems to want to make Galaxy AI compatible with as many devices as possible. As we mentioned above, after launching its new AI features on the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra, Samsung has also rolled out Galaxy AI (with a few features in months, sometimes) on older high-end models. And during its July 10 event, Samsung pledged to roll out Galaxy AI to over 200 million devices by the end of the year.
