Samuel Paty trial: what verdict for the eight accused including the Nîmes resident “Sweet Scar” ?

On December 20, 2024, the defendants in the trial of the assassination of Samuel Paty received their verdict. The teacher had been killed by Abdoullakh Anzorov, neutralized by the police shortly after the events, on October 16, 2020. The fact remains that he had not acted alone, which is why eight people appeared before the special assize court in Paris.

After four years of waiting, justice has finally delivered its verdict. This Friday, the special assize court of Paris delivered its decision concerning the eight accused in the case of the assassination of Samuel Paty.

The verdict

The eight accused were found guilty. The two friends of Samuel Paty's killer were found guilty of complicity in murder, indicates AFP. Brahim Chnina, who had relayed the lies of his daughter, a schoolgirl, is sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Eight accused

The French national anti-terrorism prosecutor's office on Monday requested sentences ranging from one year in prison to 16 years of criminal imprisonment for the eight defendants involved, to varying degrees, in the assassination of a teacher, Professor Samuel Paty, on October 16, 2020.

The attorney general also requested 18 months in prison with a 3-year probationary suspension for the Nîmes resident nicknamed “Sweet Scar”, Priscilla Mangel. Regarding Louqmane Ingar, 2 years of imprisonment with a 3-year probationary suspension are requested. For Yusuf Cinar, the prosecution is requesting one year of imprisonment with socio-judicial monitoring for 5 years.

The highest sentence was requested for the Russian of Chechen origin Azim Epsirkhanov, 23, tried for complicity in terrorist murder, but for whom the accusation was requested from the court to be reclassified as a terrorist criminal association.

Aziz Epsirkhanov was one of the two friends of Anzorov, the murderer and killed on the day of the tragedy. With him, Naïm Boudaoud, 22. They are appearing for complicity in terrorist murder, a crime punishable by life imprisonment.

The day before the attack, they accompanied Anzorov to a cutlery store in Rouen to buy a knife matching the one found near his body. Naïm Boudaoud was also with Anzorov for the purchase, a few hours before the crime, of two Airsoft pistols and steel pellets in a store in Cergy.
