From February 27 to March 16, three young men in their twenties were active in several towns in Aveyron, in Laissac, Sévérac-d'Aveyron, Aguessac, Vimenet, and also in Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert. Nothing seemed to be able to stop their misdeeds until they were arrested in Montpellier, tried for extortion with violence and given heavy sentences.

What are the facts that were committed in Aveyron ? In Laissac, on the night of February 27, they broke into a pizzeria to steal the cash register and €150 in cash. They also broke into a house, in the presence of its inhabitants, in Sévérac-d’Aveyron. In Vimenet, they also entered the garage of a home to steal two electric bikes; siphoning off 150 litres of fuel in Vimenet.

Facts that are “very disturbing”

After a meticulous investigation, the police managed to cross-check the elements, find the identity of the perpetrators, thanks to the identification of mobile phones, to clues left at the scene (a lost wallet, fingerprints, traffic tickets, etc.). One of them confessed to all the facts alleged, a second to only a few and the third completely denied his participation.

The presiding judge of the hearing, Blandine Arrial, emphasized“the inconsistencies in the story” of each. For the representative of the public prosecutor, these facts “are very disturbing”. The magistrate also mentioned the trauma felt by the residents of the house visited who found themselves face to face with the burglars, the nature of repeat offenses, for two of them.

Five-year ban from Aveyron territory

And the public prosecutor requested 30 months in prison for the one with the most criminal record and who admitted to all the facts, two years and eight months in prison for the one who denied these acts, with a clean record.
A committal warrant was also requested as well as a five-year ban from Aveyron territory.
The presiding judge followed the prosecutor's instructions. The three young men left under heavy escort to the Villeneuve-lès-Magelone remand center where they will serve their sentences.
