Shania Twain's touring team involved in Saskatchewan accident

Firefighters had to break the windows of the vehicle to rescue the 13 people trapped inside.

A bus carrying members of Shania Twain's touring team overturned Wednesday morning on the Trans-Canada Highway in eastern Saskatchewan.

The information was confirmed by the artist's management, Leila Hebden.

The accident apparently occurred shortly after 7 a.m. near the village of Wolseley, approximately 100 km east of Regina. The team was traveling from Winnipeg to Saskatoon where Shania Twain is scheduled to perform on Thursday evening.

At 3:30 p.m. local time, the show will ;was still not canceled.

Leila Hebden confirmed that Shania Twain was not on the bus at the time of the accident.

When firefighters arrived, they found the coach lying on its side, Grenfell Fire Chief Dwayne Stone explained. Firefighters had to break the vehicle's windows to rescue the 13 people trapped inside.

Thirteen passengers were taken to hospital. Mr. Stone, however, does not believe that their lives are in danger, information confirmed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

The bus has a Tennessee, United States license plate.

The fire chief believes that several passengers were sleeping at the time of the accident because several of them were not wearing shoes and did not have coat.

We had to give them blankets to keep them warm, he explains.

Due to road conditions and slippery roads, law enforcement closed the Trans-Canada Highway Wednesday morning, from Wolseley to the Manitoba border. However, the highway was reopened to traffic in the middle of the day.
