La cérémonie des vœux de la communauté de communes Millau Grands Causses, présidée par Emmanuelle Gazel, a réuni élus et habitants à l’espace culturel d’Aguessac. Un “symbolic place”, located on the edge of the future Millau-Aguessac cycle path, recalling “the importance of culture in rural areas, the president recalled.”

A cycle path project on hold

A cycle path that is nevertheless slow to emerge, the president lamented, highlighting the administrative blockages of the SNCF that are delaying the completion of this greenway. “Despite these obstacles, the community of communes, supported by Carole Delga, Arnaud Viala, Richard Fiol, and the mayors of Millau Grands Causses, remains determined to make this project a reality.” An online petition, supported by the In'VD association, demonstrates the collective commitment to this initiative.

Development projects to enhance attractiveness

In front of several hundred people, Emmanuelle Gazel also highlighted several development projects aimed at improving the living environment and social cohesion. In Aguessac, the old school will be transformed into a community center and will house the new town hall, with a planted courtyard. Other projects include the beautification of Rue des Abeillous in Peyreleau, the renovation of the small square in Saint-Georges-de-Luzençon, and the crossing of the village of Bourg to Rivière-sur-Tarn.

A difficult budgetary context

Faced with the “budgetary challenges” that are looming (the State's public deficit – and its repercussions on local finances -, the reduction of €240,000 on the dynamic share of VAT, and an investment capacity reduced by half at the start of the mandate to finance the work on the Alice Milliat sports complex), the community of communes has chosen to “protect the municipal support funds and create an exceptional fund for the upgrading of water and sanitation networks”. “In total, the envelope of competition funds will more than double”, the president welcomed.

Economic development and employment

The Millau Viaduc 2 business park, initially without a buyer, is now fully reserved, with four Millau companies ready to set up there: Héran Industry, Cauvy Assainissement, Ouallet mécanique de précision, and Actiman.“At the same time, at Millau Viaduc 1, several companies are developing and I can mention in particular the company Jasse Larzou which is expanding to more than 1,100m², with there also a forecast increase in staff” she welcomed.

Health and well-being

For com'com, “health remains a priority“, with the opening next of the Capelle health center and the ophthalmological center in Saint-Georges. “Oh how difficult”, the project of the hospital of South Aveyron “is moving forward”, with work planned to begin by the end of the year.

We are gradually, and sometimes not without difficulty, completing all the stages of this project, summarizes Emmanuelle Gazel. And if this project gives hope, it does not solve all the problems regarding the provision of care, which is why I am also mobilized alongside the hospital teams to preserve and improve access to health for residents. And until this new facility opens, we will continue to ensure the continuity of care and the proper functioning of our hospitals in southern Aveyron.”

Tourism and mobility

Tourist numbers reached a new record in 2024, with more than 700,000 overnight stays. The community of communes continues to promote the area and improve transport, with free school transport and the adaptation of the Millau-Creissels urban bus network. Innovative carpooling and solidarity car sharing solutions will also be tested in 2025.

Housing and environment

The fight against energy insecurity and the adaptation of housing to the aging of the population are priorities. The community of communes is also working on DFCI massif plans to limit fire risks and renature the banks of the Tarn to protect the quality of the watercourse.
