Shooting near Rennes: 5-year-old child shot, drug trafficking linked ?

Child's life-threatening prognosis 5 years old is engaged this Sunday, October 27, after he was shot and wounded in Pacé, near Rennes.

The events took place on Saturday evening, October 26, in Pacé, near Rennes. A five-year-old child was injured by a bullet in the head according to the gendarmerie and the daily newspaper Ouest France. The little boy is hospitalized at the Rennes hospital center and his life is in danger.

He was in the back of the car driven by his father, who was being chased by several hooded men who were following the vehicle in a second car. The latter allegedly shot at the trunk and the rear window. In order to escape the shots, the father allegedly accelerated until he was no longer being followed.  

The gendarmerie states that the circumstances of the shooting that led to this serious injury are yet to be determined.  The Rennes research section is in charge of the case in co-operation with the Ille-et-Vilaine departmental gendarmerie group. 

A link with another shooting ?

These events could be linked to another shooting that occurred Saturday morning in the Maurepas area of ​​Rennes, where several rival gangs are fighting to control drug dealing points. According to Ouest-France, this is linked to drug trafficking. Since August, around ten gunfights have taken place in Rennes.
