Emmanuelle Coratti a imaginé “Back to earth” pour mettre en lumière les initiatives dans le milieu rural.
Revitalisation des territoires, transitions ou renouvellement des pratiques, l'association organise des Rencontres nationales du retour à la terre.
You created an association Back to earth, in other words “Return to the land”. What is its purpose? ?
Our association is 5 years old and, with this very broad theme, has a dual vocation: the revaluation of life in the countryside and the links between the actors. Whether it is the renewal of agricultural practices, the revitalization of territories or territorial transitions, there is a real need to highlight and also to break out of silos, so that all these actors can get to know each other, exchange, share their practices.

We created a YouTube channel where we share content, and then to better understand and understand these weak signals we initiated three studies, one on the place of women, one on the collective and the third on a clash of cultures. This last question posed with a question mark because, precisely, it is not that simple! We will reveal the results at our next National Meetings on the return to the land and the future of territories, organized in Lourdes on February 6. These meetings will be the third, after Clermont-Ferrand and Angers, and always pursue this objective of bringing together vital forces. Researchers, institutions, communities, associations will take part. We want this event to be like a sounding board.
Culture clash: between neo-rurals and established residents ?
Exactly. We will ask ourselves how to welcome otherness without losing our identity in a context of transitions, or how to promote the exchange of skills between residents and neos, or who are the local residents in reception policies. These are complex subjects that deserve to cross points of view, to think in an ecosystem, not each in his own field.
You talk about “weak signal”, what does that mean??
That we are not witnessing an urban exodus, but that something is happening, and our conviction is that this wave will increase. We have arrived at a globalization model that is out of breath and tomorrow the countryside will have a role to play in the world. Our economy is too tertiary, it will necessarily be necessary to rebalance towards more primary economy, towards relocation. I have been working on transitions for more than 20 years and we can say that the surge is not up to par! But apart from freezing people and paralyzing them, what can be done? ? Now we see that more and more things are being done, we see initiatives emerging and that is encouraging. It remains to make it known!
