One of which opened its doors, near the future Palais des Congrès then at 33 rue Hôtel-Dieu, under the impetus of Josette Sabouraud on October 1… 1964. “It was my first day of work, remembers Janyck, then an apprentice. I was 14 and a half, I had just left school. I was on trial, shy but delighted with my new life. Josette was 22.” The adventure was launched and never stopped: in 2000, when she retired, the passionate hairdresser left the mainland for Guadeloupe (where, aged 83, she still lives near her children), and managed to sell her business to Annie Delamare.
“My husband and I had left Normandy for the sun. I was a self-employed hairdresser at home. I went through the transfer service of the Chamber of Trades. At first, it was out of the question to buy Madame Sabouraud's salon: too big in terms of turnover, one employee… But something happened with Josette…” Who, in order to gain the confidence of the banks, which were reluctant to grant a loan, employed his successor for two months.
A family atmosphere
A successful method: the young 24-year-old hairdresser took over the business gently, naming it Annie Star Coiffure, retaining a loyal clientele… and the former apprentice, Janyck, who would thus spend her entire career within the same company “in an exceptional atmosphere”. “And family,” adds Annie, who moved the business eight numbers up in 2015, to 41 rue Hôtel-Dieu. It's the salon where you feel at home. I do the hair of four generations of clients. The little ones who pass by in the street call me Tata. I lost my centenarian last year; my oldest is 96. Some come every week. They bring me cakes, they pamper me.”
A neighborhood clientele but not only: employees of neighboring administrations, grown-up children who come back… And, at Christmas, everyone eagerly awaits the holidays. Synonyms for a raffle, a tradition instituted by Josette, but also for a tree “different every year. There was the hairdresser's tree, upside down, Santa Claus and, this year, haute couture. The customers take pictures of it.” Janyck, the former apprentice, discovered it on Monday when she came to celebrate the salon's 60th anniversary.
