The disruption that affected part of the country this Saturday evening seems to be the cause of this tragedy. A 20-year-old man died this Saturday on the A6 in Burgundy, south of Beaune, on this last weekend of the Christmas holidays. Heavy freezing rain, which led to the closure of several motorways in Burgundy on Saturday evening, appears to be the cause of a pile-up of three vehicles on the A6, in the Paris-Lyon direction, near Mercueil (Côte d'Or).

The driver of one of the vehicles, a 20-year-old man, died, while four other people were slightly injured, including a 6-year-old child, firefighters said.

Traffic was banned for around fifteen kilometres on the A38, west of Dijon, in Côte d'Or, according to the prefecture, and in Ile-de-France, the speed was reduced by 20 km/h from 5 p.m. to midnight, across the entire network, except on device.

60 victims

According to a report at 9:30 p.m., while the freezing rain was about to end according to the weather services, sixteen road accidents were recorded in Côte d'Or, causing sixty victims including, in addition to the young man who died, two seriously injured.

The orange alert was lifted in the morning by Météo-France.
