Sofiane El Hatri, first VTC driver registered in Lozère: "I challenge myself to launch Uber here too"

Interview.

You are the first VTC driver in Lozère. How did you come up with this idea? ?

In all the big cities, when you want a taxi, you call an Uber. Lozère is one of the only departments where this service is not established.

So you want to bring Uber to Lozère…

I am challenging myself to launch Uber here too. For now, I am making myself known mainly through social networks. My profile has also been sent to Lozère Mobilité. I am working closely with the Marvejols tourist office. I went to Mende. I have put up flyers and posters in all the hotels, at the tourist office, at the town hall. I am doing everything I can to get people to contact me directly.

What is the difference between a taxi and a VTC? ?

We operate without taximeters, taxi meters. The price of the trip is set in advance, on estimate. In general, we are cheaper. On the other hand, we cannot maraud or provide medical transport.

“A service that targets everyone”

What clientele are you targeting?

It is a service that really targets everyone, from the grandmother who needs to do her shopping to the businessman who has to take a plane to Rodez or Puy-en-Velay.

What are your availabilities?

24/7. My cousin, who also has his professional card, will join me. The goal is to increase the number of drivers and be available non-stop.

How do you become a VTC driver ?

I took an exam at the Chamber of Trades and Crafts. I was the very first. They weren't used to it. The theoretical part was easy to set up. For the practical part, however, I had to rent a vehicle with two pedals myself. I couldn't find one in the department. I contacted someone in Hérault. She drove three or four hours to bring it to me.

What conditions must your professional vehicle meet? ?

It must meet certain dimensions. If it is diesel, it must be less than five years old.

What car did you choose? ?

I took a hybrid SUV, all options. It has a sunroof and heated and cooled seats.

Starting out as a VTC driver therefore represents a significant investment…

You don't start out with €300. Just for the car, I paid around €30,000. The exam cost €300. Registration in the VTC register, €200. The professional card, €100… There are costs everywhere. Now, you're going to have to work.
