The evening of Know-how and Heritage, organized by the Chamber of Trades and Crafts of Lozère, Friday, December 6, 2024, in the chapel of the Chaptal high school in Mende, was an opportunity to make a special honor. Indeed, Sophie Fauré received the title of master craftsman. “There are very few master craftsmen, pointed out Florence Vignal, president of the chamber of trades, and there are even fewer master craftsmen in artistic trades.

This title is a recognized guarantee of quality. Moreover, Christophe Bousquet, who defended the Lozérienne's case with the regional chamber, agrees: “Our regional president does not want this title to be devalued.”

Unique pieces

With Sophie Fauré, whose work is widely appreciated, it certainly will not be. Visibly moved, the first female master craftsman in Lozère spoke to emphasize how Lozère and her husband had supported her on this path. “By coming here, my husband allowed me to reveal myself, to go for it, to evolve.

Today, Sophie Fauré's knives are prized by big names in the kitchen. A blacksmith and cutler, trained in the arts of cabinetmaking, sculpture and marquetry, Sophie Fauré uses her various skills to create her unique pieces.

It is in her workshop in the commune of Mas-Saint-Chély, on the Causse Méjean, that Sophie Fauré makes her knives. While she spends many hours on a knife, she also makes a point of welcoming visitors. “At first, they see a woman. But after ten minutes, they are with the craftsman and the passion. Transmitting, loving and sharing, that is the greatest happiness of a craftsman“, she confided, happy that a “woman can be appreciated in a man's job“.
