La soirée a pris une dimension départementale, en cette année olympique.

Under the leadership of Laurent Suau, President of the Department, the Acteur sport ceremony, originally led by the City of Mende and the Cœur de Lozère community of communes, took on a departmental dimension in this Olympic year. It brought together on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at the Georges-Frêche events space, more than a hundred athletes from twelve disciplines, in front of a large audience.

The Olympic outfits

At the opening, three torchbearers and two volunteers from the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games were recognized. An exhibition of Olympic outfits from Seoul, lent by Gilles Michel, the director of the Atlantie swimming pool in Saint-Chély-d’Apcher, was also on offer, a nod to the flagship event of summer 2024.

Laurent Suau explained that he wanted to “show all the talents around sport in Lozère“. For his part, Robert Gély, president of Cdos 48 (Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee), highlighted “the significant sporting potential of Lozère which makes the department shine beyond its borders.

The prefect, Gilles Quénéhervé, insisted on the recognition of athletes and their educators, as well as on the investment of communities to promote the different disciplines.

Honor to the MGC

With Régine Bourgade, mayor of Mende, these three personalities presented the first awards to the U17 women's, senior and young men's teams of the Mende Gévaudan handball club, respectively for their accession to the French National U17 championship, their title of French National 3 champions and for their accession to the Prenational + 16 championship.

The evening continued, hosted by Jean-Luc Urban, paying tribute to the performances of each, but also highlighting the values humanities of sport: commitment, self-improvement and team spirit. Educators and those close to athletes were also recognized for their contribution to the success of an athlete or a team.
