Stéphane Plaza, tried for domestic violence against ex-partners, claimed to suffer from dyspraxia as a defense. But what is this neurological disorder ?

Stéphane Plaza, a famous TV host and real estate agent, claimed that he could not control his strength due to his dyspraxia and clumsiness during his trial for domestic violence, reports HuffPost. However, this explanation did not convince the Paris prosecutor's office, which requested an 18-month suspended prison sentence and a €10,000 fine. The verdict will be delivered on February 18.

Motor problems

Dyspraxia, from which he claims to suffer, is a neurological disorder of motor coordination. According to the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm), it results in part from an altered representation of the body in space, affecting motor skills and learning.

This disorder affects 5 to 7% of children and continues into adulthood, causing difficulty in performing precise gestures or organizing movements. If it cannot be cured, strategies such as breaking down tasks or using adapted tools can help people live with it better.

The host denies accusations of violence

During the trial, Stéphane Plaza denied accusations of violence, including twisting a complainant's fingers or trying to strangle her, calling the incident unfortunate.

Despite his arguments, the court will have to determine whether his dyspraxia can be taken into account in his defense or whether the facts alleged justify a conviction.
