Suicide of Bruno, SNCF driver before Christmas Eve: we know more about the circumstances of the terrible act of the railway worker

A long-time employee of the SNCF, Bruno Rejony committed suicide on Christmas Eve by jumping from his moving train. What happened for this 52-year-old railway worker to commit the irreparable ?

“We had a hell of a time understanding what had happened,” explained one of the witnesses to the Parisien.

On Tuesday evening, a few hours before Christmas Eve, Bruno, a TGV driver, committed suicide by jumping from the driver's seat of his moving train, an act that shocked the railway community.

This terrible tragedy had serious consequences for the rail network, causing considerable delays on the South-East high-speed line and disrupting the journeys of thousands of passengers who were heading to their families for the end-of-year holidays.

What happened to Bruno Rejony, a 52-year-old “experienced” railway worker ? This well-known figure from the Loire was an active member of the CGT railway workers' union section and a regular contact in the context of his professional commitment.

Originally from Saint-Etienne, Bruno joined the SNCF in 1997 and had distinguished himself through his role as a local staff representative, taking to heart the concerns of the railway workers he represented.

On his Facebook profile, testimonies revealed the emotional distress of this suffering fifty-year-old. On December 13, the father shared a message in which he mentioned “the absence of someone he misses”, accompanied by a broken heart.

Did his recent romantic breakup lead him to the worst? “He told me he wasn't well. But I couldn't imagine him ending his life, especially in these circumstances,” added a friend of the railway worker to RMC. However, the fifty-year-old may well have committed suicide due to personal problems.

“A very isolated profession”

Publications attest to a certain isolation for several weeks. Bruno Rejony was also “deeply affected and tested by the education of his autistic child” who notably had to be hospitalized several times, underline our colleagues from Parisien and RMC. Could this be one of the reasons that pushed him to commit the irreparable ?

“TGV driver is a very isolated job” in which you have to be “very strong mentally”, a retired railway worker told our colleagues. “So, one Christmas Eve, someone alone with big worries…”

The investigation entrusted to the police will have to establish the causes of the railway worker's death.
